Lions 105EA weekly news 21st April 2019

From DG Mandy (repeated)
In May Special Olympics have been invited to take part in the Westminster Mile event. This is a major sporting event and will attract a significant audience, both at the event and on TV. Special Olympics have been given their own “Unified Mile” race as part of the day.
Special Olympics Great Britain and Special Olympics Eurasia have asked the Lions of MD105 to create a “Special Olympics/Lions Wave” on The Mall. To do this we need at least 100 Lions to create a fantastic atmosphere and give all the competitors something to remember. This is an amazing opportunity to show the country, if not the world, just what Lions is all about and how we support the Special Olympics movement. It is likely to be the best national TV coverage we have had access to since we days of the Lord Mayor of London’s Parade.
If as a region, zone or club you are unable to help on the day then please consider a financial donation towards the cost of this event. At this stage we do not have an accurate costing, but we are looking at 100+ T-shirts, some sail banners and balloon arches etc. This all costs money.
This event will be a great opportunity for our organisation. Lets not miss out on the chance of national publicity.. Please see attached poster.
Please contact
Lion Simon Smith, dis.sports@lions105ea.com if you are able to attend or help in any way

From Lion Peter Dyer – Lowestoft Lions
Lions Zara Dyer and her partner Lion Ian Brown of the Bungay Area Lions Club will be walking from John O’Groats to Lands End commencing on the 8 May. They have formed a CIO called 3 Million Steps to support Brain Injury Recovery and the extended charity work of Lions Clubs who helped her to recover from her stroke. The walk will take approximately 5 months depending on Zara’s medical condition and disabilities.
In September 2016 Zara, then 29 years old, suffered a stroke in Grand Cayman resulting in a mercy flight to Miami, Florida where she recovered following 6 bleeds on the brain and multiple fractures. She is now on the road to recover but will always be disabled. Full details of her recovery, determination and sponsored walk route are on the website www.3millionsteps.org.
Does anyone have a few spare days to help drive their support vehicle along any part of the route?
Any information or donations about funding the trip estimated at £40 per day or would like to sponsor the Charity Walk would be most welcome.
