From PDG Paul Martin re District Governor Partner’s Appeal
Fellow Members of the Lions Family, for many years it has been a custom for the District Governor’s Partner to have an appeal.
As many of you will know I am not a great believer in Lions being ‘Foot Soldiers’ and using their valuable time raising money for Charities, that we have no control over. However, it is not my wish to stop you raising money for your chosen Charities.
In line with our DG’s Theme for the year ‘Serve Together Stay Together’. My appeal this year is all about ‘Service’. I am not asking for financial donations, I know you all spend many hours Serving your Communities, very often this Service goes unrecorded and unrecognised.
Service can mean different things to all of us, to me it can mean transporting someone to hospital for an appointment or to visit a loved one. Promoting our Message in a Bottle project, holding a Diabetes Awareness Day, volunteering for another organisation and so much more. You all have your own Service Projects in your own Communities.
I would like you all to tell me about your Service activities and I will record them and let everyone know what Lions do for their communities and the world beyond.
It is my intention to produce a Facebook Page to ‘Showcase’ what we do, so please send me pictures and details of where and when, for reasons of confidentiality names of individuals you help should not be mentioned.
I have set a target of 10,000 hours, this may sound unreal but divided between all the Clubs in the District, over the year it is just 4 hours per Club per week, I know we can exceed this!
There is a dedicated email address to send your ‘Service’ to.
Thankyou for taking the time to read this and I look forward to receiving the details of your ‘Service Activities’.

With the Passing to Higher Service of PDG David Woodruff, we were uncertain of how far things had progressed this year but I am now delighted to confirm the Fun Day IS DEFINITELY ON.  I am pleased to head-up the organising Team and we now have final costings.
The cost for the day, thanks to some generous sponsorship, is £16.50 per head.
The format is similar to previous years; Arrive at Gt Yarmouth Racecourse from 11 am Entertainment by Rollo the Clown, plus a Lunch Box and Drinks, before heading off to the Hippodrome Circus for an afternoon of Fun and Laughter.
This really is a great Service Day out for the Children from our District.  Of course, Adults are welcome!
Please don’t delay. In the first instance, please ring or email Richard or Margaret Contact details:-

From Lion David King Diabetes OfficerDiabetes “Know Your Risk.”
I am pleased to let everyone know that we now have 6 Lions trained to carry out “Know Your Risk” Diabetes assessments within our District. On Tuesday, Derek and Pam Maguire (Haverhill), Tracey Field and Julie Chandler (Chelmsford) and Jenny King and myself (New Century), were trained at the Diabetes UK Regional Office in Witham.

If any clubs are interested in holding their own “Diabetes Know Your Risk” event, please let me know. Any events that are organised will need to be in consultation with Diabetes UK.
Moving forward, I would like to organise a Diabetes awareness day and “Know Your Risk” training event, which would be open for any Lion or Lioness to attend. Please let me know whether this is something that anyone in your club would be interested in doing.
Please email me at: or call 07909 922077.
