From Convention Host Chairman
Convention 2017 : Will soon be with us! 25 Days and counting!

I’m afraid that this has to be a FINAL REMINDER to book for the Host Night and/or the Banquet and Ball. The deadline for bookings for either, or both, of these events, which are getting close to capacity, will be Sunday 26th February as this will just give us time to collate everything and get numbers and choices to the hotel 14 days before the Convention as they requested. So PLEASE, if you want to come to either or both of the evenings use the link to the booking form below and DON’T LEAVE IT TOO LATE!
As I indicated in last week’s newsletter, there will be two competitions run on Host Night both of which will be judged by the Mayors of Peterborough, Whittlesey, Huntingdon, Wisbech and March who will be attending the evening. To remind all those attending; there will be an award for the best, fancy-dressed individual or couple [in line with the Irish theme] and an award for the Club that makes the best impact [within reason!] on entrance to the Buckingham Suite. In order to enable the second competition to take place we would ask Clubs that wish to take part in it to let us know in advance, preferably by email, to David P, Gaby or myself. We will then ensure that tables in the Buckingham Suite are reserved for those Clubs so that they don’t need to enter the Suite until the competition starts when the Mayors, other Lions and guests are seated.

From Cambridge Lions – Club Twinning Request.
The Lions Club of Cambridge have had a close connection with a Lions Club in Eastern Germany, extending over 12 years. A request has now been made by the German Club to be officially twinned with an MD105 club. The low membership of the Cambridge Club will restrict the potential link and as a result it has been agreed to put their request to the whole of our District. If any club would like to have further details to pursue this offer, please contact PDG Deryck Chambers. Tel:- 01223 500491 / Email :- deryck.chambers

From Huntingdon Graffham Water Lions Club – Lions Safari Walk.
Huntingdon Grafham Water Lions Club have announced that this year’s Annual Safari Walk will take place on the 21st of May and that their chosen charity will be East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).
They are hoping for plenty of interest from local Charities, Clubs and Individuals, interested in raising money for their own worthy cause and to support the Lions Clubs cause.
Walkers retain 90% of the money raised for their own chosen cause and 10% is donated to the Lions Club chosen charity. The Lions Club deal with all the organisation required for a successful day, all participants need do is to obtain sponsors, do the walk, and collect the money.
Any groups or individuals interested in taking part, or for further information, should contact:
Lion Peter Wallwork on 01487 834669.

With the DG’s Permission From PDG Lion Paul Martin In Conjunction with the Centennial 100 Lions Club.
Fellow Members of the Lions Family, some of you may already know that the Centennial 100 Lions Club are doing a 100 mile sponsored walk finishing at our District Convention in March. The idea is that 10 of their members will walk 10 miles over the weekend.
I have decided to help them, I will be walking 100 miles to support them, on my own. This will be achieved by walking to, during and home from work, finishing also at Convention.
To log the miles completed I will be using an app. on my phone ‘Charity Miles’. By using this app. every mile I complete, Johnson and Johnson will make a donation to ‘Sight for Kids’ via Lions Clubs International Foundation.
Everybody wins, if you or your Club would like to sponsor us, please make cheques payable to ‘Centennial 100 Lions Club’. If your sponsorship is for myself please endorse on the back ‘Dobby’ and send to;
Annette Price, 7 Park View, Littleborough, OL15 9BN
Regards
PDG Paul Martin
