From District Governor, Lion Nigel Folkard
Subject: URGENT PLEASE: Information to go to Clubs regarding Publicity for Lions in The Sun newspaper next week
The Sun newspaper runs a “Dear Deirdrie” advice column for their readers and they have had many letters from readers struggling to cope in the run up to Christmas with things like the need for a gift for a child. The paper has this evening advised Mandy (Multi District PRO Officer ) that they will be publishing our Lions MDHQ contact details next week in the “Dear Deirdrie” column suggesting to their readers to contact the Lions if they are in dire need of such help.
Mandy has explained to the paper that Lions Clubs will be working flat out on various projects within their own communities and supporting a variety of deserving local projects in the run up to Christmas, but The Sun has advised that they intend to publish the suggestion anyway to their readers who are struggling with Christmas to contact the Lions.
May I please advise all Clubs that The Sun will be doing this, and that they can quite possibly expect requests for help, which Clubs should respond to as they would normally, and as they see fit, as it is likely that it will not be possible to meet every request in every case.
The Sun intends to quote the MDHQ contact details, but the publicity which they will give may also prompt an increase in direct approaches to Clubs from the readers of the newspaper. Contacts via MDHQ will be reviewed by Mandy and Jan and will be passed on if appropriate to the local Club for consideration under the local Club’s usual criteria.
It is very exciting that a national newspaper has picked up on the PR and personal contacts that we have been working to achieve, but it needs to be handled very carefully .
2017 Convention Host
Hi. Just a quick reminder before the festive activities get into full swing that, if you haven’t yet booked for the Centennial Convention in March, now might be a good time to do so. Fairly early in the New Year we will be meeting again with the Hotel and one of the discussion items will be the release of rooms back to the hotel. Obviously we don’t want to release rooms that members still might need but, without your bookings, we won’t know!! So, please don’t leave it too late!
Finally, on behalf of myself and the Convention Committee, I would like to wish all fellow Lions and Lionesses a Wonderful Christmas, Happy New Year and success in all your Christmas activities.

To help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Club, Acle and Bundall Lions are having their first ever Carol Service and extend an open invitation to fellow clubs and members/friends. We would very much like to share the occasion with as many from the Lions community as possible.
The Service will be held at St John the Baptist, Church Road, Reedham, NR13 3TZ on Sunday 18th December at 3 o’clock. There is no charge and the vicar has very kindly said that all donations/collections at the service can come to club funds, for which we are most grateful. Early interest of attendance would be a great help, please email Acle and Brundall President, Nick Bowler: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many thanks and kind regards
